RESPONSIBILITY |
| 2.1 |
Supplier Responsibility |
(a) Supplier acceptance of a purchase order from Electromech Technologies referencing this specification indicates their understanding it is the supplier’s responsibility to protect materials, parts, and components during their manufacture and shipping to Electromech Technologies in a manner as specified herein or in a manner which provides equivalent or better protection from damage or deterioration. |
(b) Suppliers shall establish methods and facilities for identifying, handling, and storing articles to ensure against contamination, corrosion, damage, deterioration and invasion of foreign objects or substances. |
| 2.2 |
Electromech Technologies Personnel |
(a) All Electromech personnel handling, storing or transporting materials, parts, components or finished products are responsible for the protection of those materials in a manner as specified herein or in a manner which provides equivalent or better protection from damage or deterioration. |
(b) Personnel shall receive training to inform them of the impact of working conditions and product cleanliness practices and their consequences on performance of the final product. |
(c) Identification and traceability shall be maintained. |

MATERIAL CLASSIFICATIONS |
The requirements for providing adequate protection of materials (materials, parts, components and finished products) whether in-process, stored or transported is dependant on the specific material. Electromech has identified three broad classifications of materials each of which have basic packaging requirements which are specified herein. These classifications are defined as follows: |
| 3.1 |
Class 1 - Mechanical Parts and Components |
Includes: |
(a) Electromech Technologies designed parts and components |
(b) Machined parts (partially or completely finished parts) |
(c) Plated parts |
(d) Castings |
(e) Bearings |
(f) Standard electrical parts (connectors, switches, etc) |
(g) Any other materials not classified as Class 2 or 3 |
| 3.2 |
Class 2 - Electronic Components and Products |
Includes: |
(a) Electronic components (transistors, resisters, capacitors, etc.) |
(b) Electronic products (end products such as level sensors, controllers, assembled circuit boards) |
| 3.3 |
Class 3 - Bulk Items and Raw Material |
Includes: |
(a) Bolts, nuts, screws |
(b) Rivets, wire |
(c) O-rings, gaskets |
(d) Other items random packaged in bulk |

MATERIAL PROTECTION REQUIRED |
| 4.1 |
Class 1 - Mechanical Parts and Components |
This class of materials requires individual protection of each item such that adequate protection (packaging or preservation) is provided to prevent physical damage or deterioration during handling, transporting and storage. |
(a) Seal pack packaging of one or more parts is acceptable if the parts do not contact each other. |
(b) Multi-wrapping of smaller parts is acceptable if parts do not contact each other |
(c) Packaging must include appropriate precautions for preservation where needed (e.g. grease for bearings, desicant to eliminate moisture, etc.) |
(d) Protection for exposed threads and splines to preclude damage, corrosion and contamination. |
(e) Shipping containers/packaging must be of an appropriate grade to provide adequate protection, in particular for fragile parts. |
(f) Identification and traceability shall be maintained. |
| 4.2 |
Class 2 - Electronic Parts and Components |
(a) This class of materials requires individual protection of each item such that adequate protection is provided to prevent physical damage during handling, transporting and storage. |
(b) In addition the packaging must provide protection from electrostatic discharge. |
(c) Multi-wrapping of smaller parts is acceptable if parts do not contact each other and if each part is contained in ESD protective packaging. |
(d) Identification and traceability shall be maintained. |
4.3 Class 3 - Bulk Items and Raw Material |
(a) Bulk items generally do not require any special protection. |
(b) Some bulk items may need to be bagged in small quantities to provide adequate protection from damage or for shelf life considerations. |
(c) Identification and traceability shall be maintained. |
